A MAN has been charged with drink driving and police assault following a pile-up on the A68.
A motorist had to be cut from a van after the incident, which involved five other cars, at around 4.40pm at Blackshiels, near Fala, Midlothian.

He was unconscious when fire crews from Dalkeith and Lauder, and Newcraighall arrived on the scene, but later came round and complained of neck pain.

He was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary for treatment although his injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

A police spokesman said: "A 25-year-old man has been arrested and charged with drink driving offences and police assault."

The road was closed in both directions but reopened after three hours.
